Becky's Tune Club is designed for improving beginners and intermediate players. You should already know a few tunes and feel comfortable playing at a steady pace. If you're a complete beginner, I'd recommend having a few lessons first.

Although I demonstrate on the fiddle, the sessions are suitable for whistle, flute, mandolin, banjo and many other melody instruments. Guitarists, bouzouki players etc are also very welcome if they'd like to learn tunes and develop their accompaniment skills.

No. I teach primarily by ear, breaking each tune down into manageable sections. I also provide links to the notation on The Session if you'd like to refer to the written music.

Although sessions are released at scheduled times in the week, they are added to the members' video library, so you can watch whenever it suits you.

Absolutely! Members can post questions in the members' chat throughout the week, and I'll answer as many as possible during our Friday live session.

Please don't be! Becky's Tune Club is designed to be friendly, relaxed and encouraging. One of the joys of learning from home is that you can pause, replay and practise at your own pace. Although there is a sense of community, no one can hear you so there is no need to be embarrassed.

Learning by ear helps you absorb tunes naturally, strengthens your musical memory and develops confidence. It's also how traditional music has been passed from one generation to the next for hundreds of years.

Not at all. Many members will enjoy logging on when they air, but if life gets in the way, every session is added to the video library so you can learn whenever it suits you.

The club focuses mainly on Irish traditional music, as that's the tradition I know and love best. Most of the tunes we learn will be Irish jigs, reels, hornpipes, slip jigs and polkas. Tunes travel though and some of these will be very present in other repertoires.

From time to time, we'll also explore tunes from Scottish and English and other traditions, especially when they have an interesting history or are commonly played in sessions. Whichever tradition a tune comes from, the emphasis is always on learning by ear, developing good technique and, above all, enjoying making music together.
