Lilting Banshee

⭐ Easy 🌍 Ireland ♫ Jig 📅Week commencing 12/10/26

📖 View notation on The Session.org

The Lilting Banshee is a lovely lilting Irish jig with plenty of history behind it. It appears in O’Neill’s collection from 1903, while an earlier, unnamed version can also be found in the Petrie Collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland from the mid-19th century. This week we’ll learn the melody by ear, then explore what gives a jig its characteristic lift and life, feeling the bigger pulse underneath the notes rather than just playing six little quavers in a row.

Learn the Tune

Learn the melody phrase by phrase by ear.

Improve the Tune
